The Reverend Karin R. Mitchell

Email: Rector@StDavidsCranbury.com

Our Rector, Mo. Karin with Bp. Councell

The Reverend Karin R. Mitchell, Rector of St. David’s, Cranbury, works with the Vestry toward expanding and enriching the life of the community both in the church and outside of the church. Her many concerns involve ensuring St. David’s remains a friendly, family oriented church ranging from singles to families with children to active seniors to nursing home residents. She especially enjoys her role as pastor to her people and bringing the Word to new life through preaching and example. She assumed the duties of Rector of St. David’s on November 4, 2005.

Mother Mitchell has made helping St. David’s live out its Mission Statement, “St. David’s welcomes all in the loving spirit of Christ, through faith, worship, nurture and community,” a priority of her ministry. St. David’s is an open and inclusive community of Christians living out their faith journey together. She especially enjoys her role as pastor and spiritual guide to those who are searching for a life of faith and a place where their questions are welcomed. Concerning the children, teenagers, and young adults of the church she writes, “Our young people are not just the future of the church, they are valued members of our church, right now, today, and they need all of our prayers and support and commitment as they grow in their love of and witness to Christ.”

She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biological Sciences from Rutgers University’s Douglass College and a Master of Science degree in Microbiology from Rutgers University. In 2001 she graduated from Princeton Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree. In 2002 she received a Certificate in Anglican Studies from General Theological Seminary, New York.

She was ordained in 2002 at Holy Innocents' Episcopal Church in Beach Haven, New Jersey, serving there as Deacon and Priest Associate, until being called as Vicar of St. Francis’ Episcopal Church, in Dunellen, NJ in 2003.

Many parishioners of St. David’s have known Mother Mitchell for some years as she has been an active parishioner of St. David’s since moving to the area in 1987, serving on the vestry, as Senior Warden, and on many other committees until leaving in 2000 to pursue her vocation.

Today, in addition to her spiritual leadership, she brings wide experience in administration and organization from her work with civic organizations: as a member of the Hightstown Planning Board and Environmental Commission (1990-1992), the Borough Council of Maywood, NJ, President of the East Windsor-Hightstown League of Women Voters (1988-1992), President of the Rocky Hill Garden Club, and President of the Junior Friday Club of Hightstown. She is presently a member of the Rocky Brook Garden Club and the Friday Club of Hightstown and well as the East Windsor Hightstown League of Women Voters. She presently serves our diocese as President of the Standing Committee.

A native of New Jersey, and longtime resident of Hightstown, she and her husband, David, have three grown children, Scott, Sarah and Sam, two dogs, Cody and Molly, and three cats, Callie, Bootsie and Ezekiel. She enjoys walking, yoga, gardening, reading and spending time at the beach.
